More than 319,000 harp seals will be clubbed
or shot to death this year in Canada.
96% of them will be less than 3 months old,
and some will even be skinned alive.  This
slaughter begins again in a few short days.

WOSIB Causes Garden Banner Exchange

I have been a great fan of Wyland for years.  Ever since my first trip to Hawaii, and my first viewing of one of his Whaling Walls.  He's painted 85 Whaling Walls - his term for the gigantic outdoor murals that he has painted on buildings all over the world.  His goal is to paint 100 of them by 2011.

His website is totally redone - and absolutely awesome.

Use the High Speed connection pathway if at all possible. It wasn't too bad on my 56K modem.  Be sure to have your sound card on - there are great ocean sounds, sounds of whales.

We have a membership at the San Diego Zoo - the worlds best zoo.  It means free admissions for a year.  But even it we don't get to go very often, it still supports a very good cause.

This is the baby Panda.  This was taken when she was first starting to sleep in the tree, and was just starting to wake up and move around the morning that we were there.  She just rolled around on the branch, being really cute.  If you go to the zoo site, they have video clips of her in action, and I captured a couple of pics from the zoo's photo album.

She and her mom have been moved to separate enclosures now - she's over a year old, and Panda's are not social creatures.  They needed to separate them so that mom could maybe get pregnant again.  They don't appear to miss each other.  This is Hua Mei in her own enclosure
The is Hua Mei's mom having breakfast - working on her  bamboo.

This is one of the polar bears at Polar Bear Plunge.  (Almost looks like a Coca-Cola commercial, doesn't it?)

He was very active, playing with his ball.  He would push it up on the rock (behind him) then climb up on the rock, push the ball into the water, then jump in after it.  I took one shot of that, but all you can see is the splash.
